About Our Unusual Garden Ornaments

We stock 115 unusual garden ornaments across a wider range of materials than any other category in our shop. You will find reconstituted stone, natural basalt, Welsh slate, rainbow sandstone, polished granite, limestone, bronzed resin, cast iron, aluminium, and corten steel. Every piece is chosen for build quality and originality — we do not stock mass-produced resin novelties.

The collection breaks down into several distinct categories. Natural stone water features make up the largest group, with basalt columns, sandstone spheres, slate fountains, and polished granite features from £189 to £1,199. Modern art sculptures include the Henry, Florence, George, and Stanley abstract figure series from £175. Hand statues are one of our signature ranges — the Giant Left Hand (£475), OK Hands (£379), Entwined Hands (£415), and Pointing Hand (£499) are cast in reconstituted stone and weigh 15-30kg each. Character and literary sets include Beatrix Potter (£480) and Alice in Wonderland (£490), both as five-piece collections.

Why We Chose This Range

"This is our most personal collection. Every piece here is something I would put in my own garden. The hand statues started as a trial order of three and sold out in a week — they photograph brilliantly and look even better in person. The basalt water features are natural stone, not concrete copies, so every single one has unique grain patterns. And the Stone Chess Set at £3,500 is the most ambitious piece we have ever stocked. It weighs over 300kg and takes a pallet delivery. That is the kind of thing you will not find on Amazon."

Types of Unusual Ornaments We Offer

Natural Stone Water Features

Over 50 water features in basalt, slate, rainbow sandstone, granite, and limestone. Basalt columns from £399 come in drilled, chiselled, and polished finishes. Polished granite spheres from £495 are genuine natural stone, not concrete. Corten steel spheres (£419-£925) develop a rust-orange patina that deepens over time. All include pump and fittings.

Modern Art & Hand Statues

Abstract figure sculptures in the Henry (£175-£249), Florence (£379), George (£399), and Stanley (£369) series. Our hand statues are a signature range: Giant Left Hand (£475), OK Hands (£379), Entwined Hands (£415), Pointing Hand (£499), and Two Hands in Granite (£375). Each is solid cast stone weighing 15-30kg.

Mythical & Gothic Pieces

Gothic Gargoyle (£269) and Notre Dame Gargoyle (£249) in reconstituted stone. The Devil (£325) and Macabre (£395) statues suit darker garden themes. Merlin (£225) and Seated Gaia (£299) bring myth and legend to woodland borders. The Velociraptor in cast metal (£975) and Small Dragon (£999) are statement pieces for larger gardens.

Character & Literary Collections

Beatrix Potter Set of 5 (£480) includes Peter Rabbit and friends in bronzed metal. Alice in Wonderland Set of 5 (£490) features the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and more. Toad of Toad Hall in bronzed resin (£99) is a standalone character piece. The Stone Chess Set (£3,500) is a full-size outdoor chess set weighing over 300kg — our most ambitious piece.

Expert Tip: Installing Natural Stone Water Features

Natural stone water features (basalt, granite, slate) are heavy — 30-80kg is typical. Always prepare a level, solid base before delivery. Dig out soft ground and lay a compacted hardcore pad topped with a paving slab. Connect the pump to outdoor-rated power and run the cable through conduit buried at least 300mm deep. Test the water flow before backfilling around the reservoir. We recommend a qualified electrician for the power supply.

Matt's Pick: Best Unusual Garden Ornament

Best For: Statement focal points, conversation starters, contemporary gardens

Why I Recommend It: "The Giant Left Hand is the piece that sells itself. Every visitor to your garden will ask about it. It is over 60cm tall, weighs around 25kg, and the finger detail is extraordinary for cast stone. I have seen these used as planters with succulents in the palm, as standalone sculptures on plinths, and as water features with a small pump. It is genuinely versatile and looks like it cost ten times the price."

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are unusual garden ornaments made from?

We use over ten different materials across this collection. Reconstituted stone for sculptures and fountains. Natural basalt, Welsh slate, rainbow sandstone, and polished granite for water features. Bronzed resin for character pieces. Cast iron and aluminium for metal ornaments. Corten steel for rusted-look sphere features. Each material is frost-resistant and designed for permanent UK outdoor display.

How heavy are stone garden sculptures?

Stone sculptures typically weigh 10-30kg, water features 30-80kg. The Henry Modern Art series weighs around 10-15kg. Hand statues weigh 15-30kg. Natural basalt columns and granite spheres weigh 30-80kg depending on size. The Stone Chess Set weighs over 300kg and requires pallet delivery. All weights are listed on individual product pages.

Do natural stone water features need electricity?

Yes, all water features include a mains-powered pump. The pump recirculates water from a hidden reservoir through the stone feature. You need an outdoor-rated power socket within cable reach. We recommend a qualified electrician to install the supply. Running costs are minimal — most pumps draw 10-30 watts, costing under £20 per year to run continuously.

Will basalt and granite water features crack in frost?

Natural basalt and granite are naturally frost-resistant to well below -15°C. These are genuine volcanic and igneous rocks, not concrete copies. The only precaution is to disconnect and drain the pump before the first hard frost. Remove the pump to a frost-free location over winter, or use a pond heater to prevent the reservoir from freezing solid.

What is corten steel and how does it age?

Corten steel is a weathering steel that develops a stable rust-orange patina. When exposed to rain and air, the surface oxidises to form a protective layer that prevents further corrosion. The colour deepens from orange to a rich brown over 6-18 months. Our corten sphere water features (£419-£925) are self-finishing — no painting or coating needed. The patina is permanent and maintenance-free.

Can I use hand statues as planters?

Yes, the cupped and open hand statues work well as planters. The Giant Left Hand (£475) and Cupped Hands (£259) both have natural hollows that hold soil and small plants. Succulents, alpines, and trailing plants work best. Drill a small drainage hole in the base if one is not present, or line with gravel to prevent waterlogging. The stone is porous enough to allow some natural drainage.

How are the Beatrix Potter and Alice in Wonderland sets delivered?

Both literary sets arrive as five individually wrapped pieces in one delivery. Each figure is packed separately in protective foam and boxed for transit. Free UK mainland delivery is included. The Beatrix Potter set includes Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Benjamin Bunny, and Jeremy Fisher. Position them as a group or scatter them through different garden areas for a discovery trail.
