The Basalt Statement Column stands 900mm tall and is hand-carved from a single piece of natural basalt. Water bubbles gently from the top and cascades down the polished front channel. The raw, split edges contrast with the smooth carved interior to create a modern sculptural centrepiece.
Each column is unique. Natural basalt varies in grain pattern and colour from dark charcoal to deep black. The hourglass-shaped carved channel catches the water flow and directs it evenly down the face. At night, the built-in LED illuminates the water trail for a soft ambient glow.
Setup is straightforward. Place the 700mm reservoir on level ground, position the grid over it, set the column on top, and fill with water. The included pump circulates water from the reservoir back to the top of the column. A 10m cable reaches most outdoor power sockets without an extension lead.
Surround the base with pebbles or cobbles to hide the reservoir and complete the look. The basalt is naturally frost-resistant, so the column can stay outdoors year-round. Simply disconnect the pump and drain the reservoir before the first hard frost.
Frequently asked questions
Is basalt suitable for outdoor water features in the UK?
Yes, basalt is one of the most durable natural stones for outdoor use. It is an igneous rock that resists frost, rain, and UV exposure without cracking or fading. Basalt water features can remain outside all year with minimal care.
How do you maintain a basalt column water feature?
Top up the reservoir weekly in warm weather to replace evaporation. Add a small amount of fountain fresh treatment every few weeks to prevent algae. Before winter, disconnect the pump and drain the reservoir to avoid ice damage to the pump.
Does this water feature need mains electricity?
Yes, the pump runs on mains electricity via a low-voltage transformer. The 10m cable included gives plenty of reach to an outdoor weatherproof socket. An electrician can fit an outdoor socket if you do not already have one.
