Garden obelisks add character and practical support to any outdoor space. These eye-catching pillars started life in ancient Egypt, standing proud at temple entrances. British gardens adopted them during the Georgian period, making them a classic feature of country estates and gardens across the UK.
Ready to give climbing plants the perfect home? Our stone garden obelisks give roses, clematis, and sweet peas the support they need while adding a touch of style to your garden. Each piece is built to last, ready to handle whatever the British weather throws at it.
Looking for something special? Each heavy duty garden obelisk brings together solid construction with clean lines and classic proportions. They're perfect on their own or paired with our complete range of stone buddha statues for a peaceful garden setting. Browse our full collection of garden ornaments to find the right piece for your garden.
Need more ideas for your garden? An obelisk makes a brilliant centrepiece for any space. For extra impact, pair it with our collection of tranquil water features - the gentle sound of water adds another layer of calm to your outdoor space.
Garden obelisks are brilliant multi-taskers. They give climbing plants the perfect support system while adding height and interest to your garden. Got a small space? An obelisk lets your plants grow up instead of out, making the most of limited room. Plus, they look great even in winter when plants die back, keeping your garden interesting all year round.
Think about where you want to catch people's eye. Obelisks work brilliantly as centre pieces in flower beds or framing a path. If you're planning to grow climbers, make sure your spot gets enough sun for your chosen plants. Got a symmetrical garden? Try placing a pair of obelisks to mark out different areas - they're great for creating 'garden rooms' or framing a view.
The ancient Egyptians built obelisks to honour their sun god, Ra. These impressive stone columns stood at temple entrances, carved from single blocks of stone and covered in hieroglyphics telling stories of royal achievements. Each one was a feat of engineering that showed off Egyptian craftsmanship and architectural skill.
Obelisks carry rich meaning from ancient times. Their pointed tops represented the sacred mound where Egyptians believed life began. The four sides stood for earth, air, fire, and water - the building blocks of life. Today, they stand for strength and stability, bringing a bit of ancient wisdom into modern gardens.

Matt's note, June 2026
Six column pieces went out in the year to June 2026, and the split tells the story. The £679 basalt statement column and the £105 Dandelion steel column sold two each, opposite ends of the budget doing the same job: height. Nineteen pieces are in stock. Before you buy any obelisk, stand a bamboo cane of the same height in the spot for a day. Height that looks right on screen often turns out a half-metre short in the garden.
An obelisk tapers to a point; a column keeps its width. In gardens the names blur. Plant-support obelisks are open frames for climbers, while stone and steel columns are solid ornamental pieces.
This range runs from £105 to £750. Steel columns start at £105, clay plant supports at £299 a pair, and drilled basalt water columns run £399 to £750.
No, they are self-contained. Each drilled column sits on a hidden reservoir with a pump that recirculates the water. You need a power supply and a level base, nothing more.
Not if the base is right. Stone and basalt columns are bottom-heavy and sit on a buried reservoir or slab. Lightweight steel columns push into the soil on a spike and benefit from firming in.
