Each of the 32 chess pieces is hand-moulded by Lucas Stone, a small family-run workshop based in the UK. They use local materials and traditional casting techniques perfected over decades. The pieces stand between 400mm and 600mm tall in contrasting rust and sandstone finishes.
The matching stone board uses alternating rust and sandstone tiles to create the classic chessboard pattern. At 3.6m square, it provides generous spacing between pieces. This makes it easy to walk around the board during play.
Installation is straightforward. The board tiles lay directly onto a level surface such as a patio, terrace, or compacted gravel. Once placed, the combined 1,300kg weight keeps everything firmly in position without fixings.
