Matt's note, June 2026
One solar pump, stocked for the gardens where mains is not an option. The 1,560 lph kit at £209 includes the panel and drives a 50cm feature convincingly in direct sun. Be clear-eyed about the trade: output follows the light, so flow halves under cloud and stops at dusk unless you add battery storage. South-facing panel placement is worth more than any spec on the box. It did not sell through our top 100 this year; buyers with a socket nearby choose the £49 mains pump instead, and they are right to.
Yes in direct sun, weakly under cloud. Output follows light level minute by minute. A south-facing panel position matters more than the rated figure.
The 1,560 lph solar kit is £209, panel included. No wiring or outdoor socket is needed; the panel connects directly on a low-voltage lead.
Mains, if a socket is within reach. It is cheaper and runs in all weather. Solar is the answer where running power is impossible or unwanted.
