Pebbles were our most-bought accessory of the year: ten bags in the twelve months to June 2026, eight of them black. Black wins because wet black stone disappears, leaving the reflection and the feature. All four colours are £35 a bag. One bag dresses a 52cm grid; allow two for a 90cm. Rinse them in a bucket before they go down, because polished stone travels dusty, and the first week of pump-clouding starts in that dust.

What is a pebble pool?

The dressed surface over a buried reservoir. Polished pebbles sit on the grid, hide the plumbing and make the catch zone read as a finished pool.

How many bags do I need?

One bag for a 52cm grid, two for 90cm. A £35 bag covers roughly a quarter of a square metre laid one stone deep.

Which colour works best?

Black, for most features. Wet black stone vanishes visually and deepens reflections, which is why it outsold the other colours four to one this year.

Do the pebbles need washing first?

Yes, rinse them in a bucket before laying. Polished stone arrives dusty, and unwashed dust clouds the water and works into the pump for the first week.
