Solar Pumps

Solar pumps provide an energy-efficient way to keep smaller fountains and features flowing, relying solely on sunlight for power. Place the panel where it can catch the sun, and you’ll enjoy a gentle, maintenance-light water display without the need for mains connections.

About our solar water feature pumps

One solar pump holds this page: the 1,560 litres per hour kit at £209, panel included. It suits gardens with no outdoor socket. The mains alternatives are under mains pumps, and complete sun-powered features under solar garden fountains.

Matt's note, June 2026

One solar pump, stocked for the gardens where mains is not an option. The 1,560 lph kit at £209 includes the panel and drives a 50cm feature convincingly in direct sun. Be clear-eyed about the trade: output follows the light, so flow halves under cloud and stops at dusk unless you add battery storage. South-facing panel placement is worth more than any spec on the box. It did not sell through our top 100 this year; buyers with a socket nearby choose the £49 mains pump instead, and they are right to.

Frequently asked questions

Does a solar pump work in British weather?

Yes in direct sun, weakly under cloud. Output follows light level minute by minute. A south-facing panel position matters more than the rated figure.

How much does the solar pump cost?

The 1,560 lph solar kit is £209, panel included. No wiring or outdoor socket is needed; the panel connects directly on a low-voltage lead.

Solar or mains, which should I buy?

Mains, if a socket is within reach. It is cheaper and runs in all weather. Solar is the answer where running power is impossible or unwanted.
