About our wooden gazebos

A wooden gazebo is a permanent garden room, not a summer shelter you pack away. Every gazebo in this collection is the Norfolk Collection Ottawa: a premium cedar frame under a ventilated double-tier anthracite steel roof. Cedar is naturally durable outdoors, and the two-tier roof lifts heat out while keeping rain off the space below. Diagonal cedar bracing and bolted joints make a frame you fix once and forget. Three sizes run from £1,099 to £1,549, all with free UK delivery.

Why we chose cedar

"Cedar earns its place outdoors. It has natural oils that resist rot and insects, so it lasts for years without the constant treating a cheaper softwood needs. What sold me on the Ottawa range is the ventilated double roof, that gap between the two tiers lets hot air escape, so you are not sitting in an oven on a July afternoon. The anthracite steel top means the roof itself is maintenance-free. It is the closest thing to a permanent garden building without the planning paperwork.", Matt, Garden Ornaments

Choosing your size

3m x 3m, the versatile choice

The square 3m x 3m suits most patios and seats a four-seater table comfortably. It is the easiest size to place against a fence or in a corner. Priced at £1,099.

3m x 3.65m, more dining room

The 3m x 3.65m adds nearly two-thirds of a metre in length. That extra space takes a six-seater dining set without crowding. A good middle option at £1,199.

3.6m x 4m, the entertainer

The largest Ottawa at 3.6m x 4m is a proper outdoor lounge. It holds a corner sofa set or a large dining table with chairs to spare. Priced at £1,549.

What is in every box

All three share the same build: cedar legs and frame, anthracite galvanised steel roof, two-tier venting, and square black post plinths that lift the timber off the ground. Supplied in four cartons.

Expert tip: get the base right first

A cedar gazebo needs a flat, solid base before it goes up. A level patio, concrete pad or compacted slab base is ideal. The square post plinths bolt down to hard standing and keep the cedar legs out of standing water, which is what rots timber over time. On soft ground, set paving slabs under each leg at minimum. Two people are recommended for assembly, and the roof section is the part where a second pair of hands matters most.

★ Matt's Pick, the size that suits the most gardens

Norfolk Collection Ottawa cedar wood gazebo with double roof

Matt's pick: Ottawa 3m x 3m

Best For: Most patios and gardens, it fits where the bigger sizes will not

Why I Recommend It: "The 3m x 3m is the one I steer most people towards. It seats a table of four under cover, tucks neatly against a fence, and costs the least to get a cedar room in your garden. Step up a size only if you know you will be dining six or more regularly."

Frequently asked questions

Are cedar wooden gazebos weatherproof?

Yes, cedar handles British weather well. Cedar contains natural oils that resist rot, damp and insects without heavy treatment. The anthracite steel roof keeps rain off completely, and the ventilated double tier stops heat building up underneath. Keep the legs out of standing water on plinths and the frame lasts for many years.

What base does a wooden gazebo need?

A flat, solid and level base is essential. A patio, concrete pad or compacted slab base works best. The square post plinths bolt to hard standing and lift the cedar legs clear of the ground. On soft ground, set a paving slab under each leg as a minimum to prevent sinking and rot.

Do I need to treat the cedar?

No regular treatment is required to keep it sound. Cedar weathers naturally to a silver-grey over time while staying durable. If you prefer to keep the warm honey colour, apply a clear cedar oil once a year. The steel roof needs no treatment at all.

How many people are needed to assemble it?

Two people are recommended for assembly. The frame goes together with bolted joints, and one person can manage the lower sections. The roof is where a second pair of hands matters, both for lifting and for holding panels in place. Allow a few hours and a dry day.

Do wooden gazebos need planning permission?

In most gardens, no planning permission is needed. Freestanding garden structures under 2.5m tall near a boundary usually fall under permitted development. The Ottawa range stands about 3.05m, so check boundary distances with your local authority. Conservation areas and listed properties have stricter rules, so confirm before you buy.

What is the ventilated double roof for?

It lets hot air escape and keeps the space cooler. The roof is built in two tiers with a gap between them. Warm air rises and vents through the gap rather than collecting under a sealed roof. You stay comfortable underneath on hot days, and the design also helps shed rain.
