Stone vs resin: which Buddha water feature should I choose?
Stone fountains age naturally and last 50+ years but need a separate pump and reservoir. The Meditating and Serene Buddha are cast from crushed limestone, weigh 40–60kg, and develop moss and lichen within a season. They suit established gardens where you want a permanent, weathered look. You will need to buy a submersible pump and pebble pool reservoir separately — our water feature pumps and pebble pool reservoirs fit all our stone fountains.
Self-contained resin models are plug-and-play with built-in LED lighting. The Peaceful, Ushnisha, and Heavenly Buddha arrive with pump, reservoir, and wiring already fitted. Unbox, fill with water, plug in the low-voltage transformer, and they run. Poly resin weighs much less than stone (15–30kg), so one person can position them. They last 15–25 years outdoors. Matt's Installation Tip
Position your Buddha water feature on a level surface close to an outdoor power socket. Self-contained resin models come with a 10m low-voltage cable, but running an extension lead across wet grass is not safe. If you do not have an outdoor socket, get an electrician to install one — it costs £80–£120 and is worth doing properly. For the solar model, place the panel where it gets at least 4–5 hours of direct sunlight. South-facing is ideal. North-facing walls are a dead spot for solar.

How to maintain a Buddha water feature
Top up the water level every 1–2 weeks in summer, more often in hot weather. Low water levels burn out pumps fast. Add a capful of fountain cleaner monthly to prevent algae turning the water green. In winter, disconnect and drain resin models if temperatures drop below -10°C for extended periods — the water inside can freeze and crack the reservoir. Stone fountains handle frost down to -15°C but still benefit from having standing water drained before a hard freeze.

How much electricity does a Buddha water feature use?
Self-contained models use 10–17W — roughly the same as an LED light bulb. Running a 17W pump 8 hours a day costs about £1.50 per month at current UK electricity rates. The solar model costs nothing to run. Stone fountains need a separate pump, typically 10–15W.
Do Buddha water features need a mains power supply?

Can I leave a Buddha water feature outside in winter?
Yes, but drain standing water before a hard freeze. Stone fountains are frost-proof to -15°C. Resin models handle normal UK winters but should be drained if temperatures stay below -10°C for more than a few days. Store the pump indoors over winter to extend its life.
What base does a Buddha water feature need?
A flat, level surface is all you need. Paving slabs, decking, or compacted gravel all work. Self-contained models have flat bases and sit stable without fixings. Stone fountains weigh 40–60kg and need a solid surface that will not sink. Never place heavy stone on bare lawn.
How loud are Buddha water features?
