About our garden decor collection

We stock 100 garden decor pieces priced from £35 to £1,499, covering 15 categories including sundials, bird baths, urns, vases, water features, arches, gazebos, screens, and mirrors. Materials range from hand-finished reconstituted stone and hand-carved natural granite to powder-coated steel, cast iron, and weather-resistant poly resin.

The stone pieces come from Lucas Stone in Nottinghamshire and Eastern Connections who import direct from quarries in India and China. Every stone item arrives with a naturally aged patina and develops character over the seasons. The metal range includes powder-coated steel arches, gates, and gazebos from Ascalon, plus decorative corten steel columns that develop a protective rust finish. Brass Sundial on Brighton Stone Garden Pedestal

Matt's Pick for Garden Decor

Best For: A timeless centrepiece in a formal, cottage, or traditional garden

Why I Recommend It: The Brighton sundial on pedestal is one of those pieces that just belongs in a garden. The 89cm fluted stone column lifts the polished brass dial to eye level, and the whole thing weighs 50kg so it is not going anywhere. Lucas Stone cast it in Nottinghamshire and the aged Cotswold finish picks up moss within a season. It looks like it has been there for fifty years from day one.

Stone vs metal garden decor

Stone garden decor weathers naturally and lasts 50–100+ years with zero maintenance. Reconstituted stone from Lucas Stone arrives with an aged Cotswold or burnt umber finish and develops moss, lichen, and patina over the seasons. It blends into established gardens as though it has always been there. Stone pieces weigh 15–80kg, which makes them stable but means you need help positioning the heavier items. Our garden ornament materials guide compares every material in detail.

Metal garden decor adds height, structure, and architectural lines that stone cannot. A 2.4m steel arch or tunnel creates an instant garden room. Corten steel columns develop a distinctive rust-orange patina that protects the metal underneath. Powder-coated steel arches, gates, and gazebos resist corrosion and come in black, green, cream, and bronze finishes. Metal pieces are lighter than stone (most under 30kg) and easier to reposition. For care advice on both materials, read our garden ornament maintenance guide.

Matt's Installation Tip

Before you unpack anything, decide where it is going and prepare the base. For stone sundials, bird baths, and vases, lay a flat paving slab on compacted ground first. A 50kg stone piece sitting on bare lawn will sink unevenly over one wet winter and lean. For metal arches and gazebos, anchor them into the ground with the fixing stakes provided and check they are plumb with a spirit level before tightening. A 2m arch that is 5mm out of true at the base will be 20mm out at the top, and once climbing plants take hold you cannot straighten it.

Why we chose this range

"We have spent years testing garden decor from dozens of suppliers and narrowed it down to the brands that last. The stone pieces come from Lucas Stone, who have been casting in Nottinghamshire for decades, and Eastern Connections, who import hand-carved granite and sandstone direct from India and China. The metal range is from Ascalon, whose powder-coating process gives a finish that does not flake or rust after five years outdoors. We reject anything that looks cheap close up, fades in UV, or cracks in frost. Every piece in this collection has survived at least one full UK winter in our test garden before we list it."

— Matt, Garden Ornaments

How to style garden decor

Start with one focal point, then build outward. A sundial on a pedestal at the junction of two paths, a water feature at the end of a sight line, or a pair of urns flanking a doorway gives the eye somewhere to land. Avoid scattering small pieces across a large space with no structure. Our positioning guide covers sight lines, scale, and common placement mistakes.

Use height to create layers. A tall arch or gazebo frames a view. A plinth lifts a small statue above border planting. A decorative column adds vertical interest against a fence. Mirrors on shaded walls bounce light into dark corners and make small gardens feel twice the size. For smaller spaces, see our small garden design ideas.

Caring for garden decor

Stone pieces need almost no maintenance. Brush off loose debris once a year with a soft bristle brush. Never use a pressure washer on detailed stonework. If you want to encourage an aged look, brush natural yoghurt onto the surface and leave the piece in a shaded spot. Our ageing guide covers four proven methods. For winter protection, read our weatherproofing guide.

Metal pieces benefit from an annual check. Inspect powder-coated surfaces for chips or scratches and touch up with matching exterior paint. Cast iron develops a protective rust patina naturally. Corten steel is designed to rust and should not be painted or sealed. Tighten bolts on arches and gazebos each spring, especially after storms.

Frequently asked questions

What garden decor can stay outside all year?

Every piece in our collection is designed to stay outdoors year-round. Reconstituted stone and cast iron are frost-proof to -15°C. Powder-coated steel resists corrosion. Corten steel is designed for permanent outdoor exposure. The only items that need seasonal care are water feature pumps, which should be drained and stored indoors before the first hard frost.

What is the most durable material for garden decor?

Reconstituted stone and cast iron last 50–100+ years in UK conditions. Stone develops natural moss and lichen that actually protects the surface. Cast iron forms a protective oxide layer. Both materials handle freeze-thaw cycles without cracking. Our stone vs resin comparison explains the durability differences in detail.

How heavy are stone garden decor pieces?

Stone pieces weigh 15–80kg depending on size. A small bird bath weighs around 20kg. A sundial on pedestal weighs 40–50kg. Larger urns and vases weigh 50–80kg. Heavier items need two people to position safely. The weight is a benefit because it keeps them stable in wind and deters theft.

Can I put garden decor on grass?

Yes, but always place a paving slab underneath first. Stone and metal pieces sitting directly on grass sink unevenly over winter as the ground softens. A 600mm paving slab underneath spreads the weight and keeps the piece level. For detailed base preparation advice, see our securing and installation guide.

How do I choose garden decor for a small garden?

Focus on one statement piece rather than several small items. A mirror on a shaded wall or a slim decorative column creates impact without taking up ground space. Avoid wide pieces like large urns or gazebos that overwhelm small areas. Vertical features like arches and screens add height without spreading.

Do you deliver garden decor free?

Yes, every order includes free UK home delivery. Heavy stone and metal items are delivered on a pallet by specialist courier. Lighter items arrive via standard courier. Delivery takes 3–7 working days for most items. Pallet deliveries are booked on a specific date so someone can be home to receive them.

What garden decor attracts wildlife?

Bird baths and water features are the most effective wildlife attractors. Moving water draws birds, bees, hedgehogs, and dragonflies. A stone bird bath provides drinking and bathing water for garden birds year-round. Read our bird bath guide for placement tips that maximise wildlife visits.
