Easter island heads

Easter Island head garden ornaments, also called Moai, are modelled on the original basalt statues from Rapa Nui. Our range covers 14 pieces, from compact Small Moai heads up to the full-size Stone Moai Head Statue. Prices start at £50 for a smaller stone ornament, up to £199 for the larger pieces.

Materials

All pieces are cast from reconstituted stone that weathers like natural volcanic rock. Finishes range from pale cotswold through to aged dark grey. Most pieces suit placement flush to the ground rather than on a plinth. That matches the stocky proportions of the original statues.

Moai sizes compared

Three sizes cover the range. All are frost-proof cast stone.

Matt's note, June 2026

No Moai made our top 100 sellers in the year to June 2026, and that never worries me. Heads sell steadily in ones, usually after someone spots one in a friend's garden. Thirteen are in stock from £50 to £199. The trick with a Moai is to bury the base a few centimetres into the soil. Sat on the surface it looks like an ornament. Sunk slightly, it looks like it is emerging, which is the whole joke of the piece.

Frequently asked questions

What are Easter Island heads called?

The original statues are called Moai. They were carved on Rapa Nui, now Easter Island, between roughly 1250 and 1500. Garden versions copy the long-faced basalt originals in cast stone.

Are these heads frost-proof?

Yes, every head is cast stone rated for UK winters. The material is dense and non-porous, so freeze-thaw cycles do not crack the surface. They can stay out all year.

How much do Easter Island head ornaments cost?

Our Moai run from £50 to £199. Small 30cm heads start at £50, and the large Stone Moai Head tops the range at £199.

Where should I position a Moai head?

Half-hidden spots work better than open lawn. Set the head among grasses or ferns and sink the base slightly into the soil. The partially buried look mirrors the originals.
