About our cherub garden statues

We stock 18 cherub and fairy garden statues priced from £99 to £559. The collection covers two traditions: classical winged cherubs (putti) inspired by Renaissance sculpture, and fairy figures with a lighter, storybook feel. Materials split between hand-finished reconstituted stone from Lucas Stone and crushed marble resin from Enigma. Stone pieces weigh 15–45kg and arrive with an aged patina. Marble resin pieces weigh 5–15kg with a smooth white or bronze finish.

Cherubs have been a staple of English gardens since the 18th century. They work as standalone focal points, flanking pieces for doorways, or tucked into borders where they surprise visitors. The smaller figures pair well with stone plinths for added height, while the larger pieces like the Twin Standing Cherub hold their own at ground level. Browse our parent Cherubs & Angels collection for the full range including angel statues.

Sheltering Cherubs Garden Ornament

Matt's Pick for Cherub Garden Statues

Best For: Adding a whimsical focal point to a cottage border or shaded corner

Why I Recommend It: The Sheltering Cherubs is one of those pieces that makes people smile. Two winged cherubs huddled beneath an oversized toadstool — it has a storybook quality that works in any garden style. The crushed marble finish is bright enough to catch the eye from a distance but weathers gently over time. At 48cm tall it fits into borders without dominating.

Where to place cherub statues in your garden

Cherubs look best in semi-sheltered spots where they feel discovered rather than displayed. Tuck a seated cherub at the base of a mature shrub so it peeks out from the foliage. Place a standing pair on matching plinths either side of a garden gate for a symmetrical entrance. A cherub fountain works as a patio centrepiece where the sound of trickling water draws attention.

Avoid placing small cherubs in the middle of open lawn with no backdrop — they look lost. They need structure around them: a wall, hedge, or planting bed that gives context. For placement principles that apply to all statues, our positioning guide covers sight lines, scale, and common mistakes.

Matt's Installation Tip

Cherub statues are lighter than full-size figures but still need a level base. For stone pieces on soil, set a flat paving slab or slate tile underneath to stop them sinking and leaning over winter. For marble resin pieces on exposed patio edges, a blob of clear exterior adhesive on the base stops wind rocking them. I have had customers ring up about a "broken" cherub that just toppled off a wall because it was not fixed down.

Why we chose this range

"Cherubs are one of those categories where quality varies wildly. The cheap imports have flat, lifeless faces and rough seams where the mould joins. The pieces we stock have properly sculpted expressions — you can see individual feathers on the wings and fingers on the hands. The Lucas Stone cherubs are cast in the same Nottinghamshire workshop that has been making garden statuary for decades. The Enigma fairy range uses crushed marble that holds fine detail and stays bright white for years without painting."

Caring for cherub garden statues

Stone cherubs need almost no maintenance. Brush off loose debris with a soft bristle brush once a year. Do not use a pressure washer — the fine detail on wings and faces is the first thing to erode. If you want to encourage moss and lichen for an aged look, brush on natural yoghurt and leave the piece in a shaded spot. Our ageing guide covers four methods step by step.

Marble resin pieces stay cleaner naturally. Wipe with a damp cloth if they pick up algae. The white finish is UV-stable and does not yellow. In winter, all pieces can stay outdoors — both materials are frost-proof to -15°C. For the full winter protection routine, read our weatherproofing guide.

Frequently asked questions

What do cherub garden statues symbolise?

Cherubs (putti) symbolise innocence, love, and divine protection in Western art. In Renaissance sculpture they represented the presence of the divine in nature. In English gardens they have been used since the 1700s to add a classical, romantic character to formal and cottage gardens alike.

How heavy are cherub garden statues?

Stone cherubs weigh 15–45kg. Marble resin cherubs weigh 5–15kg. Even the lightest pieces have enough weight to stay stable on flat paving. Heavier stone pieces like the Twin Standing Cherub at 45kg need two people to position safely.

What is the difference between a cherub and an angel statue?

Cherubs are small, childlike winged figures. Angels are full-size adult figures with wings. In garden statuary, cherubs (also called putti) have rounder, more playful proportions and are typically under 60cm tall. Our angel garden statues are larger, more formal pieces suited to grander settings.

Can cherub statues stay outside all winter?

Yes, every cherub in our range is frost-proof to -15°C. Both reconstituted stone and crushed marble resin handle UK freeze-thaw cycles without cracking. No need to cover them or bring them indoors over winter.

What base does a cherub statue need?

A flat, level surface is essential. Paving slabs or compacted gravel work well. For added height and presence, place smaller cherubs on a stone pedestal or plinth. Never stand stone pieces directly on soft lawn — they sink unevenly.

Do you sell cherub fountains?

Yes, we stock two cherub stone fountains priced at £179 and £399. The Two Cherub Fountain stands 65cm tall and pairs with a separate pump and reservoir. Browse our full stone fountains collection for more water feature options.

What finish options are available for cherub statues?

Four finishes: aged Cotswold stone, burnt umber, verde bronze, and bright white. Cotswold and burnt umber come on the Lucas Stone range and develop natural moss over time. Bronze and white come on the Enigma marble resin range and keep their colour for years without repainting.
