About Our Dragon Garden Statues

We stock 13 dragon garden statues across two materials: hand-finished cast stone and solid cast aluminium. The stone range includes six hatchling designs in Sandstone and Stone finishes, a mid-sized Draco the Dragon at £169, and the imposing 870mm-tall Heraldic Dragon at £275. For something truly statement-making, the Small Dragon Metal Garden Ornament stands a full metre tall in cast aluminium with a hand-applied aged bronze patina at £999.

Dragons sit within our wider Mythical Garden Statues collection alongside Fairy Garden Statues and Griffin Garden Statues. Every piece is frost-proof for UK winters and ships with Free UK Delivery.

Why We Chose This Range

"We tested dozens of dragon statues before selecting this range. The cast stone pieces from Melmar and Lucas Stone weather beautifully in UK conditions, and the detail on the hatchling scales is genuinely impressive for the price point. The aluminium dragon is in a class of its own at 45kg of solid metal. I've placed one at a customer's entrance and it stopped every visitor in their tracks."

Types of Dragon Statues We Offer

Dragon Hatchlings

From £59 each. Six designs in Sandstone or Stone finish, 130mm tall, 4.7kg. Compact enough for rockeries, shelves, and border edges. Includes Sleeping, Smiling, Proud, and Small Hatchling poses. Collectible as a set.

Mid-Range Stone Dragons

£169 to £275. The Draco (220mm, Cotswold or Burnt Umber) and the Heraldic Dragon (870mm tall, 78kg). Traditional Western dragon styling with intricate scale detailing.

Cast Aluminium Dragon

£999. The Small Dragon Metal Garden Ornament stands 1000mm tall at 45kg. Hand-finished aged bronze patina in black and gold. Won't rust, crack, or fade. A serious garden centrepiece.

Placement Tip

Position larger dragon statues at entrance points, beside ponds, or at the end of a garden path where they create a focal point. Hatchlings work best tucked among plants at ground level where visitors discover them unexpectedly. Read our guide to positioning garden ornaments for more ideas.

Matt's Installation Tip

The Heraldic Dragon weighs 78kg and the metal dragon weighs 45kg. Neither needs fixing down on a flat, level surface — their weight holds them stable in wind. But if you're placing a heavy dragon on soft ground, lay a 450mm x 450mm paving slab first so it doesn't sink over winter. I've seen a few beautiful statues lean after a wet autumn because the soil softened underneath them.

For the hatchlings at 4.7kg, consider using a thin layer of clear silicone under the base if positioning on a wall top or raised plinth. It prevents them walking off the edge in high winds without damaging the stone.

Heraldic Dragon Garden Statue

Matt's Pick for Dragon Statues

Best For: A dramatic, traditional dragon as a garden focal point

Why I Recommend It: At 870mm tall and 78kg, the Heraldic Dragon has genuine presence. The cast stone detail on the wings and scales is the best I've seen at this price. It weathers beautifully too — after one season outdoors it looks like it's been there for centuries.

Stone dragon statues weather naturally over their first year outdoors, developing a patina of moss and lichen that adds character. If you prefer to keep the original finish, seal with a clear stone sealant before placing outside. Read our frost protection guide for detailed care advice, or learn how to speed up the ageing process if you want that ancient look sooner.

For cleaning and long-term maintenance, our stone ornament care guide covers everything from removing green algae to resealing after winter. If you're deciding between stone and resin for your garden, read our stone vs resin comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dragon garden statues frost-proof?

Yes, every dragon statue in our range is frost-proof for UK winters. The cast stone pieces are made from a high-density aggregate mix that resists water absorption, so they won't crack when temperatures drop below freezing. The cast aluminium dragon is naturally immune to frost damage. We've tested all our stone dragons through multiple UK winters without any cracking or flaking.

How heavy are dragon garden statues?

Dragon hatchlings weigh 4.7kg; the Heraldic Dragon weighs 78kg. The six hatchling designs are light enough to pick up and reposition. The Draco dragon and Heraldic Dragon are significantly heavier and will need two people to move into position. The metal dragon weighs 45kg. All are heavy enough to stay stable in normal UK wind conditions without fixing down.

What finishes are available for stone dragons?

Stone dragons come in Sandstone, Stone (grey), Cotswold, and Burnt Umber. The hatchling range offers Sandstone and Stone finishes. Draco is available in Aged Cotswold and Burnt Umber. The Heraldic Dragon comes in Aged Cotswold or Burnt Umber. Every finish develops a natural patina of moss and lichen over its first year outdoors, which adds to the aged character.

Where should I position a dragon garden statue?

Place large dragons at entrance points, beside ponds, or at path endpoints. The Heraldic Dragon and metal dragon work best as standalone focal points where they can be seen from a distance. Dragon hatchlings look best tucked among plants at ground level, on stone walls, or in rockery pockets where visitors discover them unexpectedly. Avoid placing heavy stone dragons directly on soft soil — use a paving slab base to prevent sinking.

How much do dragon garden statues cost?

Dragon statues range from £59 for a hatchling to £999 for the metal dragon. Stone hatchlings start at £59 each in either Sandstone or Stone finish. The mid-range Draco is £169 and the Heraldic Dragon is £275. The premium cast aluminium dragon with hand-applied bronze patina is £999. All prices include Free UK Delivery.

Can I collect multiple dragon hatchlings as a set?

Yes, the six hatchling designs are made to be collected together. Each hatchling has a different pose — Sleeping, Smiling, Proud, Small, and two standard Hatchlings. They share the same 130mm height and 200mm x 200mm footprint, so they look consistent when grouped. Many customers arrange three or four along a garden wall or window sill. At £59 each, a set of all six costs £354.

Do I need to seal a stone dragon statue?

Sealing is optional and depends on the look you prefer. Unsealed stone dragons develop a natural patina of moss and lichen within 6-12 months, which many customers prefer for the aged effect. If you want to keep the original clean finish, apply a clear stone sealant before placing the statue outdoors. Reapply annually after cleaning. The cast aluminium dragon needs no sealing or maintenance at all.
