About Our Large Stone Garden Ornaments

We stock 47 large stone garden ornaments across five categories: classical statues, Buddha sculptures, stone water features, animal sculptures, and decorative stone pieces. Every ornament is hand-cast from reconstituted limestone, natural basalt, or rainbow sandstone, weighing between 25kg and 180kg. These are substantial garden centrepieces designed to stay put in British weather without fixing down.

Browse our wider Stone Garden Ornaments collection for all sizes, or see our Stone Garden Statues for figurative pieces. For display stands, pair any statue with a Stone Plinth or Stone Pedestal.

Why We Chose This Range

"Every piece in this collection weighs enough that you know it's real stone the moment you see it. We rejected dozens of suppliers before choosing Lucas Stone and the basalt quarry pieces because their casting quality is a step above everything else at this price. The 120kg Buddha Head is the one I get asked about most — customers can't believe the detail until they see it in person. These aren't decorations, they're permanent garden features."

Delivery and Positioning

All large stone ornaments ship on a pallet via a dedicated haulier, free of charge across mainland UK. The driver will unload to your driveway or a hard-standing area. From there, you will need two people and ideally a sack truck to position pieces over 60kg. For very heavy items (100kg+), consider having the final position prepared in advance with a level paving slab base.

Matt's Installation Tip

With pieces this heavy, getting the position right first time matters. Lay a 600mm x 600mm paving slab at the chosen spot before the delivery arrives. Level it carefully — even 5mm of tilt is visible on a tall statue. When moving the piece across a lawn, lay planks down to spread the weight and avoid gouging the turf.

For the water features, run the power cable through a length of outdoor conduit buried 150mm deep. It looks much neater than a cable across the patio, and means you won't accidentally cut through it with a spade later. Read our water feature guide for full setup advice.

Spring Maiden Garden Statue

Matt's Pick for Large Stone Ornaments

Best For: A classical garden centrepiece with real presence

Why I Recommend It: The Spring Maiden stands 1160mm tall at 81kg. The detail on the face and flowing robes is exceptional — customers regularly tell me it looks like a piece from a stately home garden. At this height, it commands attention from across the garden without needing a plinth. The Aged Cotswold finish develops a beautiful natural patina within the first year.

Large stone ornaments develop a natural patina of moss and lichen within 12-24 months outdoors. This weathering adds character and makes each piece look like it has been in the garden for decades. If you prefer to keep the original finish, seal with a clear stone sealant before placing outside. Read our stone ornament care guide for cleaning and maintenance advice.

Want to speed up the ageing process? Our guide on how to age a garden statue covers yoghurt, buttermilk, and paint techniques. For winter protection tips, read our frost protection guide. If you're choosing between stone and resin, our material comparison explains why we recommend stone for pieces this size. For positioning ideas, see our ornament positioning guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How heavy are large stone garden ornaments?

Weights range from 25kg to 180kg depending on the piece. A medium Buddha head weighs around 65kg. The Large Grand Buddha Head weighs 120kg. Classical maiden statues sit between 80kg and 120kg. The Heraldic Griffin is one of the heaviest at 144kg. Every product page lists the exact weight. Pieces over 60kg need two people to position.

Are large stone ornaments frost-proof?

Yes, every piece carries our 5-year frost guarantee to -20°C. The reconstituted limestone is non-porous once cured, so water cannot penetrate and freeze-crack the surface. Natural basalt and granite water features are equally frost-proof. We have customers with pieces that have been outdoors for over 10 years with no frost damage.

How is delivery handled for heavy stone pieces?

Free pallet delivery to your driveway via a dedicated haulier. The driver will unload the pallet to a hard-standing area using a tail-lift. From there, you will need two people and ideally a sack truck to move the piece to its final position. The haulier contacts you to arrange a convenient delivery day. Mainland UK delivery is included in the price.

Do I need a base or foundation for a large statue?

A level paving slab is recommended for any piece over 50kg. On paved patios, check the surface is level before positioning. On lawns, sink a 600mm x 600mm paving slab flush with the grass to stop the statue sinking over winter as the soil softens. Pieces under 50kg can sit directly on firm ground but will be more stable on a hard surface.

How much do large stone garden ornaments cost?

Prices range from £129 for smaller pieces to £1,050 for premium water features. Classical statues sit between £199 and £549. Buddha sculptures range from £219 to £729. Animal sculptures start at £129 for smaller deer sets and reach £675 for the Heraldic Griffin. Stone water features run from £295 to £1,050 for the XL Rainbow Sandstone Sphere. All prices include free pallet delivery.

Will a large stone ornament develop a patina?

Yes, reconstituted stone develops natural moss and lichen within 12-24 months. The textured surface encourages lichen colonisation, giving each piece an authentic aged appearance. North-facing positions develop patina faster. If you prefer the original clean look, apply a clear stone sealant before placing outdoors. To speed up ageing, brush on natural yoghurt — moss typically appears within a few weeks.

How do I clean a large stone garden ornament?

Use a soft brush and plain water to remove surface dirt. For stubborn algae, mix one part white vinegar to four parts water and scrub gently with a nylon brush. Avoid pressure washers above 1,000 PSI — they can erode fine surface detail on faces and hands. Most customers prefer leaving some patina for the authentic aged look. Clean once or twice a year to prevent heavy buildup.
