The Large Basalt Slab and Plinth Water Feature is a striking centrepiece for any garden. Priced at £549, this hand-carved slab sits on a matching basalt plinth that raises the feature to a commanding height.
Each slab is cut from genuine volcanic basalt. The top surface is ground to a mirror polish while the edges keep their raw, natural texture. This contrast between polished and rough stone gives every piece a unique character.
The raised plinth serves two purposes. It lifts the slab to a height where you can properly appreciate the water flow. It also amplifies the sound of water cascading over the polished surface and trickling down the edges.
We supply this feature as a complete kit. The package includes a submersible pump, a concealed underground reservoir, a steel grid cover and an LED light. Position the reservoir, place the grid and plinth, set the slab on top and fill with water. No plumber needed.
The LED light illuminates the water as it flows across the polished basalt. This creates a gentle glow in the evenings that transforms the feature after dark. Basalt handles frost, rain and direct sunlight without cracking or deteriorating.
At 700mm wide and 600mm deep, this is a substantial feature. The reservoir measures 870mm in diameter and 340mm high. We recommend positioning it on a level patio, decking area or set into a gravel bed.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Large Basalt Slab and Plinth Water Feature need a mains water supply?
No, it is fully self-contained with a recirculating pump. Fill the hidden reservoir with tap water and top up occasionally as water evaporates in warm weather.
Can I leave this basalt water feature outside in winter?
Yes, basalt is naturally frost resistant and safe outdoors all year. Drain the reservoir and disconnect the pump before the first frost to protect the electrical components.
How heavy is this water feature and can I install it myself?
Basalt is a dense volcanic stone, so two people are needed for positioning. The reservoir, grid and pump are lightweight. Assembly takes around 30 minutes once the reservoir is in place.
What size area do I need for this water feature?
Allow at least 1m x 1m of clear space. The reservoir is 870mm in diameter and sits below ground level. The slab and plinth above measure 700mm x 600mm.
