Iron Rose Arches for Your Garden
There's something quite special about a proper iron rose arch marking the way through your garden. Our collection brings together old garden wisdom with sturdy build quality – each piece made to last through British weather and give your climbing plants a good strong framework to grow over.
You'll notice the difference in our heavy duty rose arches right away. While many garden centres sell those light tubular ones that wobble in the first proper breeze, ours come made from solid steel that sits steady and true. They need a bit more muscle to put up, mind you, but once they're in, they're not going anywhere.
These arches work brilliantly with all sorts of climbing plants, not just roses. You might fancy them with clematis, honeysuckle or even sweet peas. Some gardeners like to pair them with our Stone Garden Statues to create quiet sitting places, while others use them alongside Ornamental Metal Gates to mark garden rooms.
Getting Your Arch Right
A few pointers about fixing these arches properly, if I may. You've got options depending on your garden. For soil, you'll want the legs a good 60cm deep - that's about knee height. Pop some postcrete in there if you're in a windy spot. For patios, we've got special fixing kits that bolt down securely.
If you're working with a narrow side path, take a look at our half arches. They fix to your wall on one side and ground on the other - rather neat for those tricky spots where a full arch wouldn't fit. They work particularly well leading to back gardens or along the side of the house.
The paint finish is worth a mention too. While most come in classic black, you can easily change this with good metal paint. I've seen some lovely ones painted in dark green to match garden furniture or even deep burgundy to set off against grey stone walls. Some gardeners like to match their arches to their Metal Gazebos for a pulled-together look.
Tips for Success
Plant choices make all the difference with these arches. Give rambling roses plenty of room - they'll thank you for it by putting on a proper show come June. For year-round interest, try mixing early clematis with late-flowering roses. The clematis will give you spring colour, then the roses take over for summer.
Width matters more than you might think. For paths, 120cm gives comfortable walking space, even when plants are in full growth. For bigger gardens or making proper statements, we offer wider spans up to 360cm - lovely for sitting areas or framing views.
Remember to think about height too. Most roses will happily climb 2.4 metres, but if you're planning on growing wisteria (gorgeous thing that it is), you might want one of our taller arches. Wisteria can easily reach 4 metres or more when it's happy.
